Alberta Foothills Weather

September 8

Yesterday was a beautiful day for cloud watching, but we had other plans and didn’t get a chance to go out for a look.
Today was even better. Around 1pm the first popcorns started up and within an hour the sky was full of billowing cumulonimbus, the show continued all afternoon. I don’t think anything got over 25k feet.. and anything that got going good enough to look interesting fell out quickly due to lack of energy, with temps struggling to hit 18C. Still plenty to gawk at though. We went for a spin out towards Sylvan to meet a little approaching line and spotted a few short lived wall clouds, some hail shafts but nothing too exciting. Heard a few reports of hail and maybe a funnel closer to Edmonton. As soon as the sun went down and surface heating stopped, everything disappeared. Now we are expecting another frost tonight. 6:20 this am we hit -.1C and a few more plants got nipped.
