October 5

Heavy snowfall warnings went out early in the afternoon of the 4th for Crowsnest pass, Pincher Creek and Waterton Park, calling for 15-25cm Thursday night into Friday morning, then updated later in the evening to include the Bow valley and upping amounts to 15-35cm, saying that 15-20cm had already fallen in the Bow valley by 10pm local.

A few waves passed over us from the southeast during the afternoon, with one little embedded cell even bringing the hail plane out for a end of season run. It moved right over the yard and gave us about a 10 minute snowshower.

It looked like we might get some thundersnow last evening/night, but it didn’t happen. Instead we got our first official snow of the fall early this morning, but just barely, maybe 2 cm. The further east you went, the less there was, Red Deer hardly got any but there were still a few accidents reported on the radio this morning. A member over at the CW forums reported thundersnow in Calgary around 7pm, and on radar it looked like the Airdrie/Crossfield area may have gotten some around midnight.
