December 30

I’ve been plugged up with a crummy cold for the past couple of days, so today B took me out for a spin to the foothills to blow off the stink and get some sun and fresh air. Nice day for a drive.
We stopped by the freshly repaired James River bridge, which was washed out [...]

Freezing fog drifted through the area early this morning, leaving a nice coat of hoar frost on everything that stuck well into the afternoon. The most interesting weather we have had all month! Only 11 weeks till spring.

December 27

The first week of winter was a gentle one here, beautiful weather for holiday travellers. Everywhere we looked, folks were out soaking up the sun and nice temps over the past few days. Lovely weather for all the furry critters outside as well, we saw a few of them out enjoying the sun in our [...]

Winter begins and the days start to get longer again! Now how bout that snow..
We officially crossed the equinox at 11:08PM last night, with less than 10cm of snow on the ground. Thursday looked promising for a bit of fluff, but all we got was a big gust of wind and a few flakes. All [...]

The forecast models have been spot on for the foothills so far, not a flake since the last post, nothing but nice warm boring weather. The GEM is suggesting a sprinkle for Thursday, and the GFS is hinting at some goodies for Christmas day.. maybe we will get some sled time in during the holidays [...]

Another week of less than exciting weather here. One depression after another rolls down from the Gulf of Alaska in a neverending northwesterly flow, lifting all the goodies right over our heads and off to the east. Folks to the north have been getting a regular sprinkling of snow this week, but we have gotten [...]

December 6

Nothing very exciting here since the last post. We picked up 2cm of the white stuff yesterday morning, and things warmed up nicely this afternoon, almost hitting zero here. Still not enough snow to break out the cats for a test spin, and it doesn’t look like we will be getting much more in the [...]

December 3

So much for the wee warmup I was hoping for today. The cold air refuses to give way to the warm push from BC and all the goodies are coasting up and over the arctic dome we are sitting under. Heavy snow out in the mountains, with Banff considering shutting the town down under the [...]

Brr!
It’s been cold and uneventful here since the last post.
Last night we hit - 23 with a windchill of -32, the night before was -24 , the coldest we have been since Feb. 14. Edmonton Intl. Airport hit -29 with windchills of -37 last night. I threw crude chart together comparing this November to last [...]
