Alberta Foothills Weather

January 27

The wind arrived at 7am this morning along with a 5C bump in temperature, which has long gone by now. A blizzard warning was issued for southeast Alberta this morning, and windchill warnings for most of the rest of the province.
We have had near whiteout conditions here since 11 am, with snow and blowing snow in 30G50km/h winds. Temps are below -20 now and dropping, windchill was already below -25 at 10am and is now at -35. According to EnviroCan’s blizzard page, if we had a bit more wind(4 hours of 40Km/h sustained) this would be classified as a blizzard. The lack of snow around here is a good thing today… not much to blow around.
It’s snowing pretty good right now and the flakes are getting bigger as we get a shot of moisture up from Washington. All that is supposed to clear out into Saskatchewan and Manitoba tomorrow, leaving us with the bitter cold. Nothing warmer than -20C till Thursday. Brrr.

Wow… it’s been a LONG time since I’ve experience the scene of the snow skirting across the road surface like that. But I’ve NEVER experienced that extreme cold! Just WOW again!

    Hi Heidi
We haven’t had a blast like this for quite a few years.
If we had more snow on the ground before the wind hit it would have been a lot worse. It sure polished up the roads to a nice shine tho.
