March 10
Darling buds of March?
The trees seem to think spring has arrived and most of them have started budding out over the past week, the pussywillows have been out for at least a week. Road bans were applied in Red Deer county this morning, just in time for the hottest day of the year so far, hitting 18C here this afternoon.
Squadrons of Canada geese started to arrive today, maybe spring is here? The dogs are making me wonder.. they haven’t started shedding at all, maybe they are waiting till after the weekend.
According to the GFS forecast model, Sunday is going to be a nasty day. After another wind event Tuesday night/Wednesday, it’s showing a large mass of arctic air pushing down into western Canada on Saturday, crunching into a wet and warm system coming across from BC. Certainly looks like an interesting bag of goodies, lots of wind, snow, maybe some freezing rain? This model called for almost exactly the same setup about a month ago, but the low pushed much further north and we got diddly.
Whatever happens, the cold air gets the boot Monday and then it looks like we are back to spring until winter is over.

Environment Canada through there (long range forecasts) continue to back off anything significant for the weekend. Where have we seen this before?? As you led off with pussy willows, they are probably more reliable than E.C.
Looks like someone will get a nice little spring storm though, but I’m thinking Whitecourt, Edson, Grand Cache, Edmonton get the brunt (4-8″). looks like Markerville is right on the southern edge. 1 hr south in Airdrie we get another 1 hr snowburst worth an inch???? Construction is going like made and theres virtually NO FROST anywhere. Have a good day PB
March 11th, 2008 at 7:34 amSummertime cloud build up over lunch hour today. Still cannot decide whether there will be much in the way of weather the next 72 hrs or not. Just a crazy winter that seems to be outfoxing the models more thsn usual. Lets hope for some kind of moisture!!!! i
