April 11
While the snow finished melting off in Calgary today, we had a nice day here to end an interesting work-week that included a heavy snowfall warning to our north, another to our south, thunderstorms in a few places, and thick fog for a few mornings, contributing to a horrific crash near Rimbey involving a gravel truck and a school bus. A few strange non-weather incidents very close to home recently include:
A Sheriff was injured when a truck smashed into the back of his fully lit-up cruiser parked on the side of the busiest highway in Alberta, the QE2, in clear conditions, a mile north of Innisfail while he had someone pulled over on the shoulder.
A cougar was struck and killed by an RCMP cruiser on hwy54 west of Innisfail near the Red Deer river, 3 miles from here. Haven’t heard of a cougar anywhere around here for about 10 years.
A nice weekend in store, with our first run at 20C scheduled for Sunday.

18 beautiful degrees as of 4pm, shooting for 21 or 22 tomorrow. I originally heard Rain forecasted for Monday, but now they’ve scaled that back to 60% chance of showers and 7. I love 40 or 60% chance of showers from a forecasters view, as it could mean a brief shower or an inch, either way it doesn’t help you, but the forecasters right. RRRRR
April 12th, 2008 at 5:04 pmYes! A beautiful very warm(actually I found it too hot) 18 degrees today. I’m thinking Edmonton will push 22 or 23 tomorrow. As the trough passes tomorrow night, we could see a pop up thunderstorm with it. Cold front will fuel it! Monday to be honest I say Edmonton and south, around Red Deer, SW down to the rockies and to Calgary there will definitely be at least ”Periods of Rain.” Gotta love spring!
April 12th, 2008 at 11:31 pmYes it could be interesting this eve when that cold front comes down. Who’s getting snow?
April 13th, 2008 at 10:33 amI don’t want any snow anymore!! Pat, just wait until next weekend..GFS shows a pretty decent amount over almost all of Alberta. I would say you could get 10-15 cm. Here about 5-10. It’s going to be pretty amazing when the cold front passes! 10 degree temperature drops are suppose to happen! We will just have to wait and see.
April 13th, 2008 at 10:37 amThe ground heated up pretty good yesterday, didn’t get below 10C here last night, and already 15C so snow is going to have trouble sticking unless we get a big dump of it. Which wouldn’t really surprise me this week
April 13th, 2008 at 10:44 amJust looking at the IR loop and seeing some nice jet streaks blasting along ahead of the front. Stiff south-southeast wind right now, there should be some good shear when the front comes through.
Did you notice the temps down in the banana belt today?? 26 fir the Bridge City and 28 for the Hat……anything over 25 is too hot for me, 20-22 is just right for me.
April 13th, 2008 at 10:52 amI too see a moderation this week then a crash on the weekend. Maybe everyoe will get in on this one. Lets hope so, I’m in the mood for a nice rainfall…of course started off withsome active weather. Have a good Sunday….Anthony
Incredible warmth today wow! 21 degrees as of 1:00 PM here in Edmonton, should be around 23 right now at around 2:00. I really hope I see a thunderstorm, I’m very anxious for our first storm! We had a thunderstorm around the 24th of April last year, and this year I hope tonight is our time!
