Hot, Hot, Hot!
The past few days have been downright summerlike, teetering on the edge of 30C with a nice breeze. Haven’t seen a cloud of any type for two days now, the closest one is about 500 miles away.
The countryside has undergone a fantastic transformation this week, the lawn is suddenly lush and green, leaves are exploding everywhere and you can hear the wind again as the trees fill out. The air is full of insects of every kind, including the first hatch of mosquitos… hopefully this blast of heat will dry up a few of them before next week, and the rain that is forecast.
After another 30C smoker tomorrow, things are slated to cool down Sunday as a little low slides down from the north. The WRF and GFS forecast models are both showing some instability for Sunday afternoon, so perhaps something will brew up.
Next week looks wet.
Might make a storm chasing trip today now that I have the day off from work. Will have to check the NAM and RUC later today and see if there are any hot spots!!!
May 18th, 2008 at 8:05 amI would say today’s hot spot for storms would be.. West,southwest of Red deer around Noon to 2 PM. After that around Lloydminster area for 4-6 PM . That’s just what the NAM/WRF are saying. GFS says differently for late afternoon. Noon to 2 PM GFS says west southwest maybe south of Red Deer. 4-6 PM says same area but a bit more south towards Calgary. Personally I would stick with the GFS because driving out to Lloydminster isn’t worth it, especially if it doesn’t happen.
Anyway, next tuesday looks great! 1500 Cape values just east of Edmonton, while we sit in the 1000-1100 range. Unfortunately this is too far out just like everything is, and all I can do is hope it verifies.

I for one will take 22 anyday over 28 or 30 but I’m probably in the minority on that. Nice pics Pat. there isn’t nearly the snowpack on the eastern slopes once you get south of High River. Clearly they missed that last one. Didn’t get to Waterton because there was 60 vehicles in line so we went from Cardston to Pincher….I love that drive. I hope our storm predicters on site here are right, bring it on.
