July 16
Relatively peaceful around the immediate area for the last two days. Even though yesterday was a chilly one by July standards, not even approaching 20C, things were still active in the foothills and it was enough to get me out for a spin to watch what turned out to be nothing but pretty clouds. Heard of some rain and small hail around Alhambra, but I stayed south of it and made it home without getting wet.
Down south it was a different story, a tornado near Vulcan , terrible crop shredding hail storms and ferocious winds All the way down through Medicine Hat and off into Saskatchewan.

Today was a beautiful day in the neighborhood, giant towers of vapor everywhere, nice and warm. A few showers and some rumbles, even a tornado watch, but nothing terribly exciting around here. Again the action was to the south, with Lethbridge getting pelted with another batch of golfballs and Warren, just to the east, getting hen egg sized hail.
Tomorrow and Friday sure look like they could serve up some explosive storms around here…

Caught a beautiful severe storm today. Got rain out at around to so I hopped in my car and started chasing. The main part of the storm passed just south of Calgary but still brought lightning and heavy rain to most of the city. A caller reported to Country 105 that there was 3 inches of hail on Highway 2 south of Calgary. When I first saw the storm on radar it was pretty much purple and red and quiet large. I drove ahead of storm as it wasnot moving that fast at about 30 km/hr. I finally got ahead of it around Cluny,AB about 35 km SW of Bassano. I got some of the best pics I’ve captured here in Alberta. Can’t wait for the next set of storms!!
