July 17

Headed west again today to meet some nice cells firing up in the foothills. I was parked just east of hwy#22 south of Caroline watching a nice storm get going when Brandon pulled up, so we sat and watched it churn over the same spot for an hour before merging with another cell developing to the south of it. With rain and lightning approcahing, we took off south a few miles and stopped to watch the new cell try to get going.
Nothing doing. We could see it building way back into the foothills and all the structure had turned to fuzz so we bailed for home, with the trip back being the most extreme part of the day for me.
Just east of the Red Deer River on #587, a deer decided to make it’s final dash out of the ditch. Nothing but a slightly crunched quarter panel on the car, the deer was done instantly. Darn silly things, I missed about 5 of them on the journey up to that point. Could have been a lot worse.

Weird day, thats for sure! The anvil from the first photo sure was blown east a long ways. Seeing the deer get k.o’d by Pat’s car was definetly a sight to see. I’m sure if you had a newer vehicle, the whole right front would be toast! Could have been alot worse indeed.
