July 27
Been very busy with non weather related stuff since the last post, so it was nice of Ma nature to hold off on the nasty weather over the past week while that was going on.
Yesterday we were parked out south of Caroline early in the afternoon watching storms wind up in the foothills and slowly move east. We watched two cells merge just west of hwy#22, then fall out with a big gust of wind. Seeing nothing but shelf and fleeing dime sized slushballs, we headed back east towards home. Then around 4pm we noticed something gathering up on the north side of the SE moving storm and stopped for a look. It appeared there was an inflow band feeding into a lowering with a bit of a tail on it, but it didn’t last long. We weren’t sure what exactly was on it’s way for the garden, so we headed back home and took the last shot a few minutes before Olds was treated to loonie sized hail, again. Nothing here.
Brandon was also following this storm and carried on after it out to three hills, where it fizzled and died. He sent in the bottom two photos from west of Olds.
More storms fired off this afternoon, and it looked like we were going to take a direct hit around 3, but the storm split, sending quarted sized hail to Olds, heavy rain and lightning to Sylvan lake, and nothing here but some light rain.

Great shots as always pat

July 28th, 2008 at 7:12 pmI wish I had a better lens. 18mm missed alot of structure on those 2 photos. I’m definetly going to be in the market for a new wide angle lens this winter. I don’t see anything to get really excited for soon after looping a few things on the GFS. Anyone else see anything?
