Flood Watch Issued at: 10:45 PM, June 10, 2008 Issued by: River Forecast Section Flood Watch Issued for Central Alberta A High Streamflow Advisory has been upgraded to a Flood Watch for the following stream and its tributaries in the Red Deer River Basin: • Little Red Deer River This river is rising rapidly in response to 30 to 50 mm of precipitation since Monday morning. An additional 20 mm of precipitation is forecast in the next 24 hours. The flow for the Little Red Deer River near Water Valley was 128 m³/s at 9:30 pm. The campground and provincial park along the river will be affected by high water. High Streamflow Advisory Update for Southern Alberta A High Streamflow Advisory remains in effect for the following streams and their tributaries in Southern Alberta: • Tributaries of the Bow River (upstream of the City of Calgary) • Elbow River (upstream of Glenmore Dam including the Communities of Bragg Creek and Redwood Meadows) • Highwood River (including the Town of High River) • Sheep River (including the Towns of Okotoks, Black Diamond and Turner Valley) • Threepoint Creek • Fish Creek A number of the smaller tributaries in these basins have started to respond to the 20 to 30 mm of precipitation that has fallen in that region since Monday morning. With an additional 40 to 50 mm forecast to fall over the next 24 hours water levels are expected to rise above current levels. No significant flooding is expected at this time although caution is still advised around these streams. High Streamflow Advisory Update for Central Alberta A High Streamflow Advisory remains in effect for the following streams and their tributaries in Central Alberta: • Red Deer River (upstream of Dickson Dam including the Town of Sundre) Up to 50 mm of precipitation has already fallen in the eastern slopes portions of the Red Deer River basin since Monday morning. With showers and periods of rain forecast to continue into Wednesday, a further 30 to 40 mm is possible. Water levels in these river basins are expected to rise above current levels. No significant flooding is expected at this time although caution is still advised around these streams. High Streamflow Advisory Update for Central Alberta A High Streamflow Advisory remains in effect for the following stream and its tributaries in Central Alberta: • North Saskatchewan River (upstream of and including the City of Edmonton) The North Saskatchewan River peaked on Monday June 9th at approximately 970 m³/s (5.4 m), up approximately a meter from last week’s water levels. Water levels will remain high for the next few days. Water levels have just started to rise at the Pembina River at Jarvie water level gauge. High Streamflow Advisory Update for Southern Alberta A High Streamflow Advisory remains in effect for the following stream in Southern Alberta: • Little Bow River Flows along this stream remain well above seasonal values. Alberta Environment is monitoring river levels closely and is in close contact with Alberta Forestry Weather and Environment Canada Weather Services.
